At what age can somebody start learning to ride at Woodside?

This very much depends on the indivual, we can take lead-outs through the woods from around the age of 3. Lessons at around 5. We have riders well into their 60's and 70's, so if you fall into that bracket you can certainly give it a go.


Will i need to get any special clothing to start with?

The short answer is No. We can loan you free of charge a riding hat. You will need shoes or boots with a slight heel as well. Wellingtons are fine. We also have a selection of boots you can borrow.

Riders should come appropriately dressed in full length trousers and sleeves. Warm and Waterproof clothing is recommended. Loose clothing is not permitted.

When can I have a lesson?

Group lessons are on Saturday and Sunday at 10am, 11:15am, 12:30pm, 2:15pm and 3:30pm. Adult group lessons are on Tuesday and Friday at 6pm. Private lessons are on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 10am and 9pm. If you would like to book a private 1:1 lesson, that would best be arranged for during the week or at 1pm or 4pm at the Weekend. 


 

Do you have a weight limit for riders?

We have a maximum weight limit of 14 stone.

I don't want lessons, I would just like to go trekking around the Bestwood country park, is this possible?
Yes it is. We have horses and ponies to suit all standards of rider, from the complete beginner, to the advanced rider.
 Fees for this, are the same as our hourly lesson charges. You will be accompanied by a guide, to ensure you don't get lost in the woods. As with lessons, you can go as a group, a semi private group, or just as an individual.

I want to start riding but don't have my own horse, is this a problem?
Absolutely no problem at all. We have a large stock horses and ponies, to suit all ages and abilities. The use of one of our horses or ponies is included in your lesson fee.
